Common Blue (male)

Polygonia Icarus


The  male common blue lives up to its name as it is bright blue in colour. Found mainly across grasslands, it is on the wing from May to October in two brood. The caterpillar food plant is bird-foot-trefoil.

Common Blue (female)

Polygonia Icarus


A common butterfly found on grasslands. The male is bright blue and the female is bark-brown with delicate markings on the wing tips. On the wing from May to October in two broods. Caterpillar food plant is bird’s-foot-trefoil.
